LOKATA : Chyuan (Graphic Artist)

How do you like the artwork above?

Produced by local talent, Chyuan we’re sure that’s one of many masterpieces that caught our attention.

Local talents are undeniably underrated in a sense that their works and ideas have lower aesthetic quality compared to neighbouring countries and the international scene. There might be a certain degree of truth where local talents have their expressiveness and design production restricted due to the conservativeness of Malaysian culture. Regardless, Highbreed wants to bring in exposure for our beloved LOKATA!

How did the idea of LeadLab came up?

Back in 2015, I was juggling between a day job and completing freelance work during the night time.

Preferred having more freedom in my work and time, I decided to setup LeadLab which specializes in Branding, Illustration and Graphic.

Why the name Lead?

The word Lead came from pencil lead. I use pencils for my initial visual and sketch works. It also brings meaning in becoming the leader. We want to lead our clients to discover the potential of their brands, products or works and how to maximise them.

Previous mentionable projects?

I recently had the opportunity to work with KakiSeni for the doodle festival in Ipoh. The Doodle Malaysia group decided to make this collaboration happen. The project titled ‘Bongkar Oldtown’ was based off the concept of peeling paints of the Old Town buildings. Peeled paints reveals other layers and marks or how they said ‘dibongkar' in Malay.

This piece was my submission for the ‘Bongkar Oldtown’ project. The inspiration from this piece comes from the peeling bluish paints of the Old Town buildings, and also the history of it such as the Concubines, famous restaurants and landmarks. We’re thrilled that Tourism Perak is actually keeping this piece in the office!

Past weeks, me and my teammates were invited to speak at the The Bookmarkers Affair, which was organised by TSUBAKI Studio. We felt extremely delighted and grateful upon being presented such opportunity.

How can the community give support apart from monetary funding?

Interested entity can help organising larger scale activities and festivals. You all can show us love by liking, sharing and commenting artwork that we created with blood, sweat and tears. A kind gesture like this will actually light up our day and fuel us into giving the best before, during and after the creation process.

Your goals and vision for LeadLab and yourself?

LeadLab aspire to be one of the best creative studios in Ipoh while continuously make improvements on our works and services.

‘Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.’
