LOKATA : Hon Fee

Introducing a new talent from your neighbourhood.

Hailing from the small town of Ipoh, let’s get to know Hon Fee who is currently based in Klang, but pretty much moves around all the time.

• For humans who have no idea of who you are, please introduce yourself and things that you do.

Hi, my name is Hon Fee. I’m pretty much a fulltime dancer. I am a member of 2 dance crews. They are Malaysia All Star Dance Crew (MASDC/MONSPACE) and Rejuvenate Dance Crew (RJVN). We represent Malaysia to compete in various competitions to gain pride for the country.

• Any major projects going on?

We, MASDC are preparing for a major competition - WOD ShangHai which will be held on the 6th of June. Recently, I got hooked in rapping and have been experimenting a lot with it. I just released a mandarin rap cover with Chriz Ooi (leader of MASDC), hope you guys'll enjoy it.

Previously MASDC also won as champion for WOD (Beijing Qualifier)

• Some of the greatest moment you’ve had so far?

It’s been crazy lately but making my country proud by winning overseas titles were some of the greatest moment for me. It’s a blessing when strangers come to my face and tell me that they actually loved my songs.

• What kind of music do you listen to?

I love listening to R&B, slow jams, and many other genres. Hip Hop music has helped me in the process of creating lyrics for my rap covers.

• Quantity vs quality?

Quality. Quality will always be my priority. Honestly, in order to coop up with the society, you need to play catch up with speed. Personally, it has to be both quality and quantity. It’s our challenge to find a balance between them. The only thing that I can assure of myself is that when it comes to work, they won’t lack of quality.

• Why do you think the reply track to NAMAWEE/KEAN was necessary?

First thing first, I don’t actually take that as a bad song.

But I believe he (Kean) should have done more preparation and practises enough before releasing his work. As RedPeople has mass followers, I wish they can produce quality work apart from presenting significant message to kids who support them.

As for replying, I feel there’s a need of this healthy vibe in order for have us to improve together. Since I just started rapping, I saw this as an opportunity and just went with it.

• How did the idea working with Chriz came about?

So one day we were together and I told him about Kean’s song (produced by NAMEWEE) and said, “I feel like replying that kid from RedPeople”. Chriz told me to choose a random beat and DO IT. I was like, “What?! Really? Chriz replied “Yes, what are you waiting for?”. And then the rest is history.

• Your favourite brands for your everyday wear and accessories?

Personally, I don't really choose when it comes to brands. I’ll purchase and wear in ways I feel like to. I also tend to wear stuffs which hold special meaning to me. For example, gifts from my friends and family. I cherish those very much and wear them with pride.

• People who inspires you?

For me, they are people who possess established thought where they’re fully aware of their purpose in life. I always feel that I’m a confuse kid in finding my own path and these people really inspire me in not hesitating on doing things that I like.

• If you won the lottery, what would you do?

I think I will present my family a house, a car and give them lots of funds. The ugly truth is, as an artist, your financial situation is either extremely good or awfully bad. If the number allows, I will consider helping my closest friends to launch businesses and more in helping them to achieve their dreams too. Nothing is better than seeing the smile of the friend that endlessly supported you when you’re in the lowest point of life.

• What keeps you going?

I think it’s self-awareness. I’m pretty much convinced that I’m not the 9-to-5 type of guy ever since I was in my secondary school. I knew I won’t feel fulfilled if I ever stuck in the corporate lifestyle.

• Future goals, dreams?

I’d like my work to be seen. I hope they can inspire people especially to those who have dreams but lack of courage to step out and make the first move. I crave achievement by bringing out the best in others.
